Thanks. I'm also at a level where I can help some people with some things.
(I'll been using UNIX-like systems since my boss in the early-mid 80s got a
blue book from Bell Labs with a description of it, and decided that it would
be fun to implement a version of it on our Tandem Non-Stop ][ .)  But some
stuff, especially when it's advertised as working but plummets me into a
game of Mother-May-I, drives me a bit nuts.

Jolicloud looks quite nice. I'd be leery of switching, though, since I have
just enough stuff working under Ubuntu the way that I want it to that I'd be
loth to put it all back together under another distro.

I did do it via update. At least i think I did: I was running 10.04, and the
Update Manager said: "There's a new version. Wanna try it?" I said "Hell,
yeah!" and dove in. Unfortunately, I'm only finding out what doesn't work
well as I'm already plunging down the rabbit hole.
