While I agree with you (putting my Fluxbox hat on), I think that's the
point of GNOME 3 / KDE4. Their expressed aim was to revamp the user
interface to better suit the majority of users.

I mean, take one look at their website (gnome3.org) - the webpage's
title is "Made of Easy", and two of the the big headings are:

DISTRACTION-FREE COMPUTING
EVERYTHING AT YOUR FINGERTIPS

I think they just have shitty use cases and UI designers. Great
intent, executed poorly.

In this hacker's humble opinion, of course.

While (admittedly) I don't abhor GNOME3, I disagree with some
decisions they've made. To be fair, I work just as well without X, so
I'm not sure i'm a good guideline, anyway.
