Message #125023
[Bug 773657] [NEW] Xorg crash
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xorg
After upgrade 10.10 to 11.04 X won't come up.
/var/log/Xorg.0.log shows "Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault). Server aborting"
After this I tried rebooting with recovery.. which did not even go past booting.
(maybe related to the fact that I have / on encrypted disk?)
Then I retried normal boot (which go past boot en passed decryption), but again fails with X.
Even tried removing /etc/X11/xorg.conf and restarting X with "sudo restart gdm"
Same crash.
Finnaly tried to report this via "ubuntu-bug", trying to follow https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing
But apport does not seem to deliver a crash report in /var/crash
Continued ubuntu-bug anyway.. it shows strange failures, but finally cam up with this bug report page.
This might be rel;ated to bug 747729, although that one showed a workaround via recovery boot (that does not work for me) and changing driver fglrx into ati (which also does not affect me as I don't have a xorg.conf now).
Even creating a xorg.conf with driver "ati" won't work. (I do have a ATI video card)
