[Bug 408645] [NEW] Screen & Keybaord Crashes/hangs but CPU continues to work
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati
I created a report through "ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg-video-ati" I hope it
is reference here.
First of all I am a complete new user, apologies if this is the wrong
place to report this problem.
I installed Ubuntu 9.04 last Saturday (Dual boot) and ever since this
problem occurs. After a good few hours of PC being on, downloading
torrents, the screen crashes [1st occasion with an Alt+Tab] and [2nd
occasion whilst playing an AVI through VLC].
Although the screen hangs I can still move the mouse pointer but nothing
can be done; also the keyboard seems to crash as trying Cortl+ALT+Del
does not work. Pressing the Nun Lock or Caps Lock key make no
difference/lights don't change. All dead, except for the mouse.
The actual CPU and HDD continue to work as the torrents have progress
whilst the screen is "dead".
I did try the sequence of commands from:
http://help.ubuntu.com/community/Radeon_9200/9250_(RV280)_and_DVI
but was unable to make the changes requested, namely remove the comments. I think this page is now out of date.
If additional information is required, please request it in simple terms
for new users. Thank you for your help in advance.
