[Bug 420008] [NEW] [nvidia185] Acer External Monitor fails to display anything in "Twinview" mode
Public bug reported:
I just updated my Karmic system ( a late 2008 13" Macbook; aka version
5,1 ) yesterday and a new version (185) restricted driver landed on my
system. After a restart, my system failed to start X, and I could only
login from a command prompt. See bug#418681 for the details.
While debugging, I listed all of my nvidia packages and noticed that one
had a ~jaunty version, mbp-nvidia-bl-dkms ( 0.22~jaunty ), which was
installed from the mactel-support PPA ( lp:~mactel-support ). So
thinking it might be part of the problem I used 'dpkg -P' to forcibly
remove it. Note, nvidia-bl-dkm version 0.14 was still installed. I
continued debugging the problem ( see the bug reference above for
details ), and I now have a usable system.
That is, until I tried to fire up Twinview on my external Acer 26"
monitor. The monitor is connected via a mini Display Port to DVI cable
to a DVI to HDMI cable.
nvidia-settings recognizes the monitor, it allows me to configure as
"Twinview", and when I hit the "Apply" button, I see the power button on
the monitor transition from red to blue, but the screen never displays a
thing. No errors are shown by nvidia-settings.
Note, I tried tp re-install the nvidia-bl driver from mactel-support,
but that doesn't seem to make a difference.
One last note, I've *never* been able to get this machine to work with a
mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter. I was only able to make the DVI
version work.
