[Bug 437447] [NEW] xserver-xorg-video-radeon when installed causes abnormal shutdown
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeon
On shutting down (or restarting) Ubuntu, I abruptly get a black screen
with the following text:
[1423, 318002] Uhhuh, NMI received for unknown reason b0 on CPU 0
[1423, 318133] You have some hardware problem, likely on the PCI bus
[1423, 318250] Dazed and confused, but trying to continue.
This is followed by a red screen, and after about 2 seconds, a line of small grey rectangles appear across the red sceen.
Immediately after this the computer shuts down (or restarts).
This issue is 100% reproducible on my laptop, Sony VAIO VGN-CR35G, even
on a freshly-installed system.
When I remove the xserver-xorg-video-radeon package, i am prompted to
remove xserver-xorg-video-all and xserver-xorg-video-ati as well.
When these packages have been removed, Ubuntu starts in text mode with
no GUI. However, I am then able to see a normal shutdown, with the
loading bar that ends with "Power down."
I suspect that xserver-xorg-video-radeon is the package responsible for
the issue, but I'm not sure.
I've attached the output of lspci -vvnn after a reboot, in case it
helps.
Thanks! (:
