[Bug 450787] [NEW] MTRR Invalid Argument at LiveCD, nvidia hardware

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-core

Hi,

I downloaded a Daily Build Image and packed it on a USB Stick just to try 9.10 Karmic Koala.
Uname -a
2.6.31-13-generic Sat Oct 10 15:27:55

When I boot the system on the stick with no options, for a few seconds I
can see the new splash screen, then the screen goes black instantly.
When the system is booted (the led on the stick stops blinking), I'm not
seeing anything, still the same black screen. The screen didn't blink
(switching modes). I can't switch to the ttys ether. Pushing power off,
reboots normally, but still no screen on the shutdown.

If I choose save graphics mode, it's the same.

Only if I remove quiet and splash from the grub line, I can boot to the
command line and switch the ttys. When i enter startx gnome starts but
crashes immediately (the Desktop and the mouse is visible for a few
seconds, but no interaction possible).

xserver throws this error:

error setting MTRR (base=0xfb000000, size=0x00e00000, type=1) Invalid
argument (22)

My system is a Dell Vostro 1500 Laptop, with a Geforce 8600M GT
When I use the Ubuntu 9.10 Beta (not daily build) I don't get this error, the system is working normally.

Thanks for reading, feel free to ask for more information if necessary.
