[Bug 496890] [NEW] Garbled screen when disabling internal display on macbook

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Description: Ubuntu 9.10
Release: 9.10

xserver-xorg-video-intel:
  Installiert: 2:2.9.0-1ubuntu2
  Kandidat: 2:2.9.0-1ubuntu2
  Versions-Tabelle:
 *** 2:2.9.0-1ubuntu2 0

        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I'm on a MacBook 2,1. I have an external monitor connected using VGA
(1680x1050 pixels). I use krandrtray to configure the external display.
I can enable and disable the external display just fine, resolution
switching and desktop resizing works just fine. This changes when I
disable the internal display: The screen gets garbled in various ways
(colored stripes, random blackening), seemingly influenced but not
exclusively caused by movements of the mousepointer.

I created a video (http://www.delta-phi.net/images/MVI_1650.avi) to show
the garbledness. This is a shot of my external display (internal is
boring - I have the backlight turned off). I open the krandrtray display
setup and disable the internal display - instant garbage. After managing
to click on the "Revert to previous settings"-Button, the screen returns
to normal.

Just disabling the backlight of the internal display will not work as a
workaround much longer - some parts seem to be failing and my macbook is
making weird noises when the internal display is enabled.
