[Bug 533639] [NEW] Samsung SyncMaster 920N monitor resolution not correctly detected

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Xorg fails to detect the resolution of the Samsung SyncMaster 920N
monitor. This has happened since Feisty at least. Now I am at Lucid
installed afresh from alpha 3.

The native resolution of the monitor is 1280x1024. Lucid assigns it
1024x768. Earlier versions assigned it some other (slightly weird, by
the way) resolution closer to 1280x1024, but not quite it - I don't
remember what this was exactly. gnome-display-properties does not offer
the native resolution either.

ubuntu-bug should have attached a Xorg.0.log, Xorg.0.log.old and an
xorg.conf to this bug report. The xorg.conf file was added prior to the
last reboot. Therefore, Xorg.0.log.old should contain the log of the
problem, xorg.conf my working fix to the problem (via explicit
modelines) and Xorg.0.log the log of the corrected situation.

I should also mention that I have both an nvidia card and an on-board
ATI card. The latter is currently disabled in the BIOS, but I used to
use it and the problem was there too.

I assume this is actually an issue with the monitor misreporting its
specifications. Does Xorg maintain a database of monitors with
resolution-detection problems? If so, this monitor should be added to
it. I'm happy to provide any additional information required.
