The remedy problems with wrong resolution xserver startup, I followed
the recommendation of Timo Aaltonen and ran Xorg -configure to create an
xorg.conf.

It failed.

⋯:/etc/X11# Xorg -configure

Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
	If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock
	and start again.

Could not find any information about the configure option at
http://wiki.x.org or http://wiki.x.org/wiki/Releases/7.4
