[Bug 584246] [NEW] Temporary screen corruption / glitches on Ubuntu x86-64

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-core

Hi,
during normal usage of my computer, my screen occasionally partially corrupts, especially the lower fifth or so of the screen, sometimes the lower half. It's mostly just multi-coloured garbage (I sometimes get the impression, it's a lot of orange and black) mixed with the real contents of the screen and lasts for under a second. Sometimes this happens more often, sometimes less often, and I have yet to find out, why.
I'm reporting this for core, as I've seen this on two different notebooks (HP dv9700 and Lenovo Thinkpad T400), with three different graphics cards (Nvidia Geforce 8400M GS on the HP / ATI Mobility Radeon HD3470, Intel GMA4500 MHD on the Lenovo), both using the amd64 version of Ubuntu 10.04.
On both laptops I've seen this using Ubuntu from the live CD, so it happens in stock Ubuntu.

Sorry, if this bug already exists, but I couldn't find anything
matching.
