Public bug reported:

After a recent upgrade of the nvidia packages on  this system, when X
starts with the current nvidia drivers, the screen remains blank and I
have to reboot in safe mode to remove the drivers and edit the xorg.conf
file to use the VESA driver.  I hope someone can help me resolve the
issue.  Thanks.
