If your /home folder is on it's own partition then you are less likely
to have catostrophic failure anyway as the /home contains almost all the
personalised settings so re-installing the OS or even installing a
completely different version of linux is less likely to have a negative
impact on your system. However stable you make your system backing up
is always a good plan of course.
If you don't already have your /home on a separate partition it might be
worth thinking about doing that sometime later, but perhaps not for a
while becuase there's nothing wrong with your system either way so don't
change it lol
