Re: [Question #77178]: "Unable to detect file system..." What to do?

Question #77178 on Ubuntu changed:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/77178

    Status: Needs information => Open

noerbaek gave more information on the question:
Well, i found a solution to my problem... I had to re-install Windows
XP, then open the live CD and install Ubuntu inside Windows. When it
installed Windows it told me that my drive had to be formated, which I
already knew. But the Windows installer did it without problems. When
Windows was installed again I tried to do a full installation of Ubuntu
- but i still got the same error - it stopped at almost 60% and left me
without Windows or a functional Ubuntu. So now I've installed Windows
again and Ubuntu inside Windows which apparently works fine.

The odd thing for me now is why the installation can't recognize the
file system and why I can't do anything about it in GParted...

I have a HP compaq nx9105, 512 mb RAM, Mobile AMD Sempron Processor 2800+ and 40gb harddrive.
I downloaded Ubuntu 9.04
