Tom proposed the following answer:
When sudo asks for a password it wants your normal user password, not
your SuperUser/Root one.
Err, i think you've already got this but just in case ... Please go up
to the top taskbar and click on
Applications - Accessories - Terminal
and into the terminal/command window/console type in
sudo dpkg --configure -a
and key in your normal user password. If it gives you any output then
please copy & paste that into here so we can have a look at what's going
wrong.
