Yes, that's right--the 192.168.etc bit is the IP address.

I don't know about the windows IP question. Did it actually show up as Xs,
or are you just using those to hide the actual address? (An address starting
192.168 is a 'private' IP address, so it only works in your local network,
so you don't need to worry about keeping it secret. For that matter, IP
addresses aren't really secret, anyway, but there are times when you might
not want to share your public IP address, which is your router's address on
the internet).

Web cam: The install CD will almost certainly only have software for
windows. Search for the model of the webcam and either "linux" or "ubuntu",
to see if anyone else has tried to set it up (unless it's a really weird
one, chances are someone will have).

OO: Make sure you're saving it in Word document format (.doc)--MS Word can't
open Openoffice's format (.odt) without an extension.
