I've never seen an IP address with Xes in before, and I have no idea what to
do about it, I'm afraid.

Yes, you need to save it as a .doc file. Windows itself doesn't recognise
either .doc or .odt, but Microsoft Office will recognise .doc.

You have, I expect, a router, which connects you to the internet. The router
and the computers you have connected to it (wired or wireless) form your
local network--each computer (and the router) have a private IP address in
the local network (these are the ones that start 192.168.). The router also
has a different IP address for its connection to the internet--this is its
public IP, and you can see it by visiting a site like
http://www.viewmyip.com/
