Let's move this discussion back to the LyX ticket so we can get feedback
from other LyX developers. Can you please comment on the report over
there (http://www.lyx.org/trac/ticket/8591)? In particular, please
explain whether there is a difference between what LyX shows on the
screen and in the output PDF. Also (regardless of your answer to my
previous question), please provide a minimal example .lyx file as well
as the PDF that you get when compiling that .lyx file. For more

Title:
  Lyx does not work properly with Springer's svmono book class.

Status in lyx package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  I am writing book with Springer. I have a problem trying to use svmono with Lyx that I think could easily be fixed by the LyX developers. I have asked them, but I have not gotten any response. Maybe if someone from Springer contacted them they might take the request seriously. The problem is this: 
  In the LyX/Latex source code (not the typeset version) the section numbering does not update with the chapter. For example you get

  Chapter 1
  	Section 1
  	Section 2
  Chapter 2
  	Section 3
  	Section 4
  …etc

  I would like to have

  Chapter 1
  	Section 1
  	Section 2
  Chapter 2
  	Section 1
  	Section 2
  …etc
  -------- OR --------
  Chapter 1
  	Section 1.1
  	Section 1.2

  2Chapter 2
  	Section 2.1
  	Section 2.2
  …etc
