Nice move, Tyler, thank you!!
Here some thoughts inspired by the excellent feedback on your blogpost:

* Nautilus to "Nautilus Elementary" !?

"Nautilus Elementary" [1][2] is a heavily patched Nautilus, integrating
Zeitgeist and a smart set of practical technologies[3] to handle files in a
less complicated and less hierarchical manner than Midnight Commander would
want us to. Is the dramatic antiquity of Midnight Commander being brought to
an end with the introduction of classless (flat) content driven viewer
technology for our files??

* Mouse modes in a file manager ?!

Creative suites are known to have different editing modes for the mouse.
Zooming in and out via click-drag while the zoom mode is active, panning on
click-drag while the hand tool mode is selected.. Select tool for
selections..
In a Single Click environment such as Gimp, Blender, Ardour, InkScape or
Abiword, such behaviour would be natural (not so say intuitive :P ),
consistent especially.

* What's the impact on all this with the new Zeitgeist-Tracker-Nautilus
integration?

Do we need a way to display the entire filesystem hierarchy, or is it enough
to present the user with 5 categories, one of them for the entropy of
"other" stuff: [Documents; Images; Audio; Video; Other] ?
I believe folders will turn into categories soon, we will simply replace the
folder icon with an actual thumb for the category. starting with those named
above, we could expand, depending on use cases.
