I do not see a problem wit this disappearing however, i am a big fan of saving screen real estate
if the "Dodge windows functionality is to disappear it would be logical to make a tweak to the minimal allowable size of launcher icons currently (On Oneiric) the slider bottoms out at 32 pixels. of it is either on screen all the time or autohide why can't a user set this smaller like for example 20 pixels? changing this should be as simple as adjusting one integer in the code.
