F12 is the firebug shortcut, having that turn my screen off would be . . 
. sub-optimal.
I think function key bindings should be application specific. It isn't a 
nice area to play with, just look at the complete and utter mess caused 
by grabbing the Alt key for the HUD. I have a feeling that trying to 
harmonise F key use will cause more problems than it solves.
