CTRL is better than ALT, because:
Super is expressive and cryptic at the same time.
You hit Super once and it's expressive.
You hold Super, then hit a key and it's cryptic.
What do you mean by "cryptic" in this context? Do you mean combined
shortcuts, like Super+S to show the workspace switcher?
cryptic HUD action is CTRL+X and CTRL+V
Ok, I think I understand. CTRL+C is not a HUD action at all. That's a
normal application shortcut. What the HUD does is simply to display a
search field for menuitem labels. It doesn't provide its own features.
It's still defined by the application. It's just accessed a different
way.
So your idea is to keep everything as it is, but you should tap Ctrl
instead of Alt in order to display the HUD? I think that might be nice
as an option, but it shouldn't be the default. This is because on most
keyboards, the Alt key is more accessible than the Ctrl key. This
means when Alt is used for the HUD, you won't have to move your hands
out of position as often. This makes HUD more comfortable.
I've noticed that I've started using Alt "copy" more often than I use
Ctrl+C. Though Alt "save" requires more keystrokes, it's both faster
and more comfortable than using Ctrl+S, since that requires me to move
my hands. If the access key for HUD was moved to Ctrl, it would be far
less useful for me.
