Just a quick note on this subject: you say drop everything below
12.04LTS but what about support for 8.04LTS Server and 10.04LTS
Desktop and Server? And not to forget the previous two releases? All
of those are still supported. I'm not quite sure what you want to
achieve with this suggested change, but that is probably to my poor
understanding of your suggestion.
I'll have another read in the morning, I hope to make some heads and
tails out of your suggestion.
Nice catch. When I say "drop", I don't mean "delete". What I mean is
when new users come to Ubuntu, they will come to 12.04LTS. They should
be told to only consider 12.04 documentation. Because if you search for
information about how to do something in Ubuntu, then you _will_ get
confused. You might get a link to a howto for Ubuntu 5.04, for instance.
Or 6.06. Much, if not most, of it is completely irrelevant.
So I'm talking about "from here on" and "in the new Ubuntu". Of course,
people who are using older versions of Ubuntu must still use older
documentation. We can't dictate the web anyway. What we can do, is
teach, communicate and provide good documentation for all aspects of
Ubuntu. But in order for that to happen, we need a comprehensible
system; for documenters, developers, and users.
