Yes, you have been wise about the version, I have the 4.0-5, which is the default one for Ubuntu 12.04 in the software manager and synaptics. I tried to force an upper version in synaptic, but the option is frozed for XPAD. Maybe I should add another repository, but I don't know where to find the name of the one for the version 4.2. Sorry, I'm a newbie… 
I don't have much time to learn how to do now, because of exams in university. So I will check this in two weeks, except if you know a quick way to upgrade. I will let you know the feedback when I find the way.
