comparison of calculation speed between PFC and YADE

I was in the fortunate position to make a calculation speed test for PFC and YADE on one and the same machine (Intel Xeon 8-core 3,2 Ghz). I think the results (see attachment) are interesting for all of you.

The models consists of a regular cubic assembly of 1000 (and accordingly 8000 balls) and a slight angular planar wall underneath. A linear contact model with a stiffness of 1e6 for the balls and 1e8 for the walls was chosen.

To make the results comparably the calculations were performed without graphical user interface and only on one core. Also no other calculations were performed during this speed test. The same geometries, parameters and model specifications were used for both programs.
