Regarding your last two specific questions, my personal answers are "no".

Regarding, the general idea of your proposal, maybe I may refer you to a 
YADE-related paper published in SoftwareX (a journal aiming to give some 
credit to code development "per se" in scientific research, that has 
been discussed once here) :
