Bruno Chareyre proposed the following answer:
The sequence is like this:

1. integrate clumps movement (using total mass and total inertia),
changing clump's pos/ori
2. for each member: pos = clumpPos + relativePosOfMember

So if you change member's position it is overwritten in the second step.
You really have to change the relative position of the member, not the
absolute pos.
