Fighting with ubuntu

I'm getting a hang on Ubuntu start (apparently an Oneiric issue, according to googling; it hangs after "checking battery state"). I'll ping when I've won the battle, or temporarily retreated to osx. I'll call no later than 13:38 UTC (9 min from now)
