Re: Failed to get nvidia card working using Bios work around
Installing nvidia-common from lucid repos runs nvidia-xconfig automatically
generating the standard nvidia xorg.conf file.
I tried running with both that and adding the BusID line but to no avail, from the kernel and system logs it seems to have to do with some issue with the video ram or irq addressing ... I'm not knowledgeable enough to answer ...
The only other clue is that this is not a fresh lucid install, but an upgrade from karmic ...
Any help is well appreciated ...
TIA
Matt

Running nvidia-xconfig is important. I read somewhere that things don't go well if you skip config after installation of drivers.
I do not have any startup parameters.
Hope you solve your problem. I hate that using nvidia comes at the expense of sata speeds. I'm thinking of going back to intel and enable enhanced mode for sata.
Take care

If you have a xorg.conf then you likely DONT have the new xorg version, the new xorg splits the xorg.conf in several files.
If you are using a xorg.conf then you most likely can make your xorg.conf work with this command:
sudo nvidia-xconfig
That will make a new xorg.conf and configure it accordingly. Make sure you have the SATA set to compatible and you should be set.
hope it helped

In order to get intel working properly again you have to uninstall all nvidia packages and delete xorg.conf, at least that's what works for me.Do you have any grub startup parameters noacpi irqpoll or other stuff like that? Still trying to understand why I can't get nvidia working ... I actually need it now ... Doh!

Hi there!
The way I did it was to install nvidia-current from repo. That took care of dependencias and configurations. Changing the BIOS option after that worked flawlessly. I did not make any manual changes to xorg. Making NVIDIA work is well documented on the web, what I'm having problems with, is going back to intel so I can use enhanced SATA.
Good luck

Hallo, I finally had some time to tinker and decided to try and use the nvidia card with its proprietary drivers.
I read that by changing the bios setting Sata from enhanced to compatible it was possible to get the card working.
First I installed the nvidia-current package (I'm using ubuntu lucid 32 bit) and added the line
BusID "PCI1:0:0"
to xorg.conf in the nvidia device section
rebooted changed the bios setting and ... ... ...
No Luck ...
