Binary package hint: compiz

After enabling desktop effects the screen starts to flicker randomly. This means it turns black for maybe 1/10 second. This appears to occur randomly in programs like firefox or openoffice. The blank desktop without any apps displayed seems to be not affected by this. I'm not quite sure if this is a compiz or nvidia driver issue.
I'm using compiz version 1:0.8.4-ubuntu2 with the nvidia 185 drivers

I've encountered this problem in Ubuntu 9.10 as well as in 9.04.
