"Library repository" should be based on git or mercurical since both suppor=
t

off-line commits and not the whole repository, only necessary directories
need
to be checked out.
Version control of the repository should be included within Kicad for
convenient handling - libraries for repository management do exist! - ea.
libqtgit, libgit2,
A good start could be the layman project, serving additional ebuilds
(package
management in gentoo linux).
The version number should be included in the specific library for reuse in
layout design - so it would be possible to update libraries specifically -
if
necessary for schematic and board layout.
