well, maybe I got it wrong, but when the first announcements that
LaunchPad will be open sourced reached the public, I had the
impression that it will be suitable for own hosting, i.e.
ready-to-deploy packages, stable releases and no hassles when putting
it online on the Internet. I didn't think of LaunchPad being available
"only" for interested developers. :-) Maybe a short notice on the main
page on who the intended target audience is would be good? I had some
feedback from other folks who also tried to install it for production
use, and in the end, just gave up...
