Re: Lubuntu application discussion for maverick

Hello,

VIDEO
VLC is very very good but it brings in nasty QT dependencies and it uses
too many dependencies for Lubuntu I think. I think we should keep
Mplayer until other players like Parole become good alternatives.

AUDIO
On the LXDE blog it says LXmusic 0.4.4 supports Album art and this:

¨By using Collection API, performance improved dramatically on large
play lists. Loading time for 3030 entries reduced from 7 to 0.5 seconds
on a Core 2 Duo T6500 system.¨

Probably the loading time on an old pc is 2 or 4 seconds but it is
rather nice.

BROWSER
I think we should give Midori a try and after comparisons between the
latest chromium and midori we should pick one.

IM CLIENT
ayttm looks very nice.
We should definetly consider making this the default im client if it is
working properly. I have seen the new version of pidgin (2.7) and it
looks rather nice as well.

Are there any plans of getting LXtask in the repo´s?
