Re: System Requirements

He he,

well, one thing for sure.... the GetLubuntu & MinimalInstall pages will
certainly have been fully checked before we release!

Getting A.J. to write up a small wiki page attached to the Minimal Install
page is something I was going to ask him to do today :) From reading the
various comments, it does appear that switching from Chromium to xxxterm
brings massive benefits for low RAM systems. As has been pointed out in
other discussions, from the 11.10 (and possibly 11.04), it does seem that
more than 128MB is now needed to have a system that does not 'crawl'. One
suggestion was to raise the minmum RAM for these to 196MB, but I'd be
curious to know if they can run okay at 128MB provided you don't use
Chromium.

Yes, we must be open and honest, but if you can get 12.04 onto a 64MB
system, albeit with tweaking via lubuntu-core, we'd not be being honest if
we simply said to people "No, you cannot". Steve has pointed out that 32MB
is too low for a usable system, so we do know that 64MB is REALLY pushing
the lowest limit the lubuntu can funtion on. As for what other distros do &
do not require for minimal specification, that is not our concern. We are
here to advertise lubuntu and simply saying "No, it will not work under any
cicumstances - go and try XYZ" is not going to get the greater usage of
lubuntu out into the general world!

Re Intel Macs, I'd swear I wrote that section up, along with the *add link
here for Download* as I don't know the exact landing link for them, or the
ppc images yet.

Regards,

Phill.
