Re: No desktop on beta2 alternate ppc

And now to chuck in a hand-grenade....

Are there any workarounds that can be put into the test cases (such as
nosplash for Live CD, and possibly others). As the installer is know to
work and the issues are x-org / kernel driven I need some working test
cases to either go into the test cases or into release notes. If you guys
cannot get a methodology up for getting 'X' to run after an install, then
Beta 2 will not be approved as all there is currently on there is big red
bugs, instead of grey ones. A big Red bug IMHO points to the Installer. We
all know that it is not the installer, it is the 'X' / kernel that is
preventing the screen being shown upon reboot. If there are work arounds,
they can be mentioned in the release notes and PPC goes forth. I can ask
for the nosplash to be put in as a bug fix, so it should then hit the
dailies.

For the kernel issue,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1043518 was
interesting, but not as much as
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=857300 bottom line is guys,
12.10 is releasing with kernel 3.5.x So there is no way out of that one.

After B2 is / is not released, I'll be asking for some testing with the
3.6.x kernel but with about 12 - 18 hours before a "go / no go" call for
PPC beta 2, it is now up to you guys who have the kit to decide.

regards,

Phill.
