Testing Quantal netboot powerpc
Just for the record and not having tested anything for about a week. I
decided to try the ppc netboot install and of course selected the
Lubuntu enviroment.
1) Used a USB drive and created the iso on the USB with the dd command.
2) Got the USB booted with boot usb0/@1:2,\\yaboot
3) At the yaboot boot: install video=radeonfb:1024x768-32@60
4) Came up in really strange green-blue screen but works
5) Made the approx hour+ install ethernet connected
I figured I would need more kernel commands to get my PB G4 booted
from the partition and I am testing those right now.
Since ojodan made the recommendation to also include snd-powermac blacklisting
this line of junk works.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1066435
Linux video=radeonfb:1024x768-32@60 snd-powermac.blacklist=yes
A bit more than a new user might want to tackle, but we at least know
with those kernel commands on my PB G4 will boot into a usable
environment. At this time I have used it to boot into partitions that
were installed from the alternate and netboot powerpc isos.
I do wish we had got the quantal powerpc netboot tested during the
cycle, but it just takes to long when you are under the gun to get the
other spins tested.
Time to eat ...
