Re: Belated workaround notes. Old video cards on X86 and iMac G3

@Dan Mahn, the script that was shared by Str8bs is typed in after the
installation of the OS. you have to get into the command line. In my G3 I
wait till Lubuntu boots in and then I loose my screen, I see that the
monitor light goes orange, I wait about 5 seconds and hit
<ctl><alt><F1>That gets me a prompt line at that time I'm asked for login
and password which would be the one you set up at install. Once I do that,
I type sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.cong hit enter and you will be in xorg.conf
file. It should be empty, that is where you type in the scripts that where
shared in the above post, making sure that you type the correct one for
your unit. In my case I have the (Tray-Loading iMac G3) so I used the
script for that. Once you do that hit <ctl> o and enter to save it and
<ctl>x to exit back to the prompt line, then enter sudo stop lightdm hit
enter then sudo start lightdm hit enter. If you did everything right your
screen will come on and you will have Lubuntu (in my case). I installed
Lubuntu 12.04. I have not tried 13.04 yet. But 12.04 is working great. As a
side note, it took me a while to find out that i needed to partition the
Hdd with no more than 10 gig for my /, or the yaboot will not work if is
any bigger. My Hdd is 80gig so I partitioned it 10 gig for / and the rest
for /home with 1gig at the end for swap, mac takes a little at the front
for yaboot and something else.
I hope that was of help to you.
regards
Jose
