Re: OpenERP Apps v7.0 is live

Also,

not everybody is using OpenERP for kidding. If you look at the integrators
successful with OpenERP, most of them are not just downloading modules
around: they are creating synergies between modules authors, creating new
branches of modules to comply with new OpenERP versions (v7?),
localizations, other modules... People are reporting bugs and proposing
enhancements, extracting common abstractions, merging similar modules...
OpenERP has never been something mature with minor evolutions. It's a
moving target instead...
That can only work when a module has a project home somewhere Github,
Launchpad etc.. that serious people can work with.

Unless I missed something, I can not find these relevant information
(repository page, main branch for serie, project page) in the new Apps
website. Take Akretion, we made over 100 OpenERP modules,
www.akretion.comis certainly not the best hub for all of them, some
are on some Launchpad
community branches, some are isolated on Launchpad, some are on Github, the
relevant thing is to pass that information, else sorry to say it but it's
just one more useless thing people will end up making parody web pages
about again.

Take new version 7 release: I would say even 6 months after v7 has been
officially released, may be 75% of the extra modules commonly used on v6.1
are still not ported to v7. That means things don't happen magically
overnight. Modules get migrated if people identify easily what are the
issues, where to report bugs and propose their contributions. People are
also encouraged to visit project modules before picking ones, so they can
evaluate if development seems serious, if there are tests, how frequently
the repo is updated, if there are contributions, peer review etc..
How can one think the fuel of the free eco-system powering most of OpenERP
modules is just a detail?
If the central hub OpenERP SA don't emphasis how things work in first
place, then yes, you can expect public will keep understanding nothing
about open source, will keep thinking things all come free magically at
every new release no matter how thing change and because they won't
understand how it works behind, they will not fund it and the eco-system
will keep struggling.

Sorry to be harsh about that, but I cannot understand how you guys didn't
think about that. If that information is missing, then Google will keep
being a much better apps hub than apps unfortunately.

My 2 cents.
