Re: Questions about improve usability of partner base_location on NUTS Standard

Hi Robin and all other people,
I have already spoken about this
Let me prepare a simple form to gather information and then we can easily speak about this.

TIA

I have had a look at some of the NUTS 3 districts.

I find it difficult to envisage much practical use for such large subdivisions - far too large for any reasonable geographical or economical/statistical purposes.

As such they are a distraction.

Postcodes are probably a better starting point - whilst some countries, such as Ireland, do not currently have postcodes, they are scheduled to be introduced in the near future.

In some countries postcodes are of limited use but in others, such as the UK, they provide very high 'resolution', down to the specific building in some cases and in almost all cases down to the road.

My gut feeling is that NUTS will drive us nuts

Hi, Antonio,

Great! Let's start then compiling the information. First, we need to set what data are necessary to compile for this purpose (address format, official classification, etc). Putting some examples from various countries can be a source of this information. Then, extract a requirement document, and finally... develop/adapt what we need.

Tell me when you start, and I'll add Spain information.

Regards.

    Hi, Franco,

Thanks for your initative. Maybe in a practical way, NUTS is not
very interesting (too many intermediate classifications), but I
think it deserves to see if we can take advantage of something
of this standarization, and adapt conveniently /base_location/.
I'm one of the original developers that brings /base_location/
to v7, so I'm very familiar with it.

Please tell me when you make any future step to collaborate in it.

    Regards.

    Hi Pedro,
you are right: NUTS has too intermediate classification but ...
some of this are used in addresses and ...
all addresses over the world use part of NUTS even if NUTS is
    just European classification.
In example, USA uses this -> address / city (state) <- that is
    something like NUTS
I proposed gather data from teams of all countries in order to
compare how NUTS are used in all countries.
I would and could prepare a simple form to compile and then we
can, all togheter, decide what we want to do.

        Hi,

in the italian community, we are talking about various EU
        standards.

Starting from general categorization now we are analizing
        the NUTS Standards.
