Hi jusst to geve feedback.
I have been using bad old videochip Intel GM 82852 (known to be problematic) built in my notebook.

on Karmic+OpenShot 0.9.43 built from the last PPA.  The app exits
without any error upon every attempt to run a clip.

Seems to be the video driver more than your app, but i would appreciate
any advice.
