Re: [Bug 746977] [NEW] We needs a small (or large) business sign up page.

With regards to the data points, there aren't any I know apart from you would see at http://beta.theosdf.org/index.php?q=civicrm/contact/add&reset=1&action=update&cid=11&context=search (you probably have to be logged in to see that). I do want to point out that CiviCRM is robust enough that I would discourage attempting to mirror its database entry for such a contact in a custom form for Wordpress. I say this for no other reason than most of that work is already done for us, albeit in Drupal.

With the above said, there is no real reason we can't start using CiviCRM in some functional capacity even right now. Its database is separate from Drupal's, so security and access issues aside, it doesn't need a theme or any other bells and whistles assuming someone is willing to manually enter some data for the time being. I'm going to start investigating how to set up some kind of public facing sign-up page for it.

I'm glad to learn you're investigating how exactly the CiviCRM system works, as I don't feel I'm integral enough to the organization's day-to-day operations to be able to discern which features we necessarily do and don't need.

As for the theme template, I was told to expect to see something sometime today. I'll make sure to get it out as soon as I do.

Wow, didn't know gmail had a "send" keyboard shortcut. As I was saying...

If the CiviCRM "business contact" class has data points you know of (outside of those listed), could you please let me know. I'll be searching independently, but you may already have an idea. And if the redesign has a reference doc, at least for the color palette, that'd be great too.

Thanks for the help, Toast.

What I have in mind for designing the sign-up form is a seamless
transition away from WordPress; meaning that I'd like the
front-end to be as close to the new layout as possible and the
back-end to have all the appropriate data points as CiviCRM. I'm
still learning about CiviCRM, so I can shoulder some of that, but
the design transition is another story because I haven't seen a
current version (and the version I saw was a jpg, so I don't know
how to extract or interpolate Hex/RGB values from that, let alone
get the appropriate logos). So, if the CiviCRM "business contact"
class has data points you know of (outside of those listed)

        Joshua,

This was meant to go to you much earlier today.

Interestingly enough, I didn't realize who you were until I
looked at your email address. I suppose I should start
compiling a list of people who aren't just the "general
public" anymore. Also, you are the owner of the form in Google
docs. All-in-all, you're correct that it would be relatively
simple to export the data and reuse it in Drupal/CiviCRM when
necessary. The front-end design of the document (what is
visible to the people using it) can also be customized either
now or later. Let me know if what I just said doesn't exactly
        answer your question.

Migrating the data to a new format shouldn't be a problem when
that comes up. I've read that CiviCRM allows individuals (or
organizations) sign up without assistance to become
contributors/volunteers/donors. Once we have that set up
properly I think it will do what you're asking for.

Sorry for the slow response. I don't currently have a
wordpress id/password, so I can't view the form.
Nonetheless, I was hoping to get a little more elaborate
than something that simply collects data. That in mind,
I've acquired a CiviCRM manual and I'm absorbing as much
as I can. However, with the many concurrent
(non-Drupal/CiviCRM) initiatives the OSDF is chewing on,
I'd like to be able to set something up in time to catch
the momentum when these things launch. So I'm wondering
how hard it would be to fashion the google form in such a
way that it can migrate fairly easily, both from the
back-end data perspective (probably very easy) and the
            front-end design. Any thoughts/suggestions?

               Kage,
Any more immediate solution like this one is one that
            would need
to be implemented in Wordpress. However, if you would
            like to have
admin-type access to the Drupal installation get with
            me. The
current focus with Drupal is 2-fold: configure the
            theme (which is
pending a proper draft from our designer) and configure
            CiviCRM.
Any suggestions/additions/improvements to the setup are
            welcome as
               well.

               Joshua,
I have created the form and made you the owner. You can

talked about for a while. Kevin[2], our resident
            policy geneus,
                   suggested it contain the following:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
                   Name (of owner)
                   Business
                   Business Address

I'd be happy to build a mock up if this is

                   Any takers?
