[Bug 575090] Re: Simple Scan detect Mustek 1200 UB Plus as Mustek BearPaw 1200 CU

 

I am closing this bug for Simple Scan, because on this level (like with
these exact scanners) nothing will be changed in Simple Scan. The
information collected here should probably be incorporated into
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportComponentsScanners

Feel free to open a new, more generic wishlist bug, about something like
"In reality it unfortunately happens that different scanners identify
themselves with the same id and there is no way to programatically
determine what driver/backend to use. The best thing that can be done is
to interactively ask the user what scanner it is. Provide logic and GUI
to do this in Simple scan if such a case is detected."

I don't know if it will be implemented soon, though...

Bug description:
  A Problem like this I have already had under 9.10 with xsane.
  There it was a comment or uncomment a line.

  Starting form Terminal brings the following message if I use the scan
  button:

  [gt68xx] Couldn't open firmware file
  (`/usr/share/sane/gt68xx/PS1fw.usb'): No such file or directory

  ** (simple-scan:1636): WARNING **: Unable to get open device: Invalid
  argument

  There is no file in the directory /usr/share/sane/gt68xx

  sane-find-scanner reported:

  found USB scanner (vendor=0x05d8, product=0x4002, chip=GT-6801) at
  libusb:005:002
