Re: last minute, need eyes

Hey Matt,

Here's a quick list of bugs I managed to find. Sorry that it's just a list
of bugs rather than code fixes, but I'm running a bit short on time as I
have two assignments I need to get done before I head away for the weekend.

I should also mention that I haven't looked at the code at all, this is
purely ui based testing..

Anyway, so as I aren't completely sure what your main focus was on in this
branch (ie is it mainly just the categorisation in installed view, or also
technical aspects etc), here's a quick list of things that seem to be
working nicely in your branch, but from memory worked slightly less nicely
in trunk:
- scrolling lists is really smooth,
- installing software refreshes only the installed software, hence no more
flickering,
- categorised install view.

My main concern is that the list view seems to be rather slow in loading,
loading for instance the accessories category just feels a bit laggish, but
loading the provided by ubuntu list takes about 6 seconds, loading the
system category or clicking on technical items in provided by ubuntu takes
longer than 2mins (that's when I forced the program to quit - no idea how
long it takes in reality). If it is a *cough* simple tweak to fix this, then
the remaining list of bugs should be fixable in the next little while. If
this is a fundamental consequence of the changes made, then I wonder whether
this is a price we want to pay..

So here's a short list of bugs I managed to find (just a very brief look,
others will undoubtedly come up with some more):
- ratings seem to have disappeared from list views?
- clicking 'installed software' before the cache is available causes
crashes,
- clicking 'technical items' in the installed view would seem to hang (or
I'm impatient), <- turns out I'm impatient
- search for sgt-puzzles and install one partway down the list, the status
doesn't update correctly,
- start s-c with --enable-rtl, the category nodes in the installed pane
float on the left rather than on the right (you may want to take a look at
the lobby/details one day too).

So yeah, in general it looks good, but I have to admit that it feels slow
and hangs rather often..

Anyway, hope this helps you, and once again sorry that I can't help fixing
these issues rather than just stating them.

Also, I haven't thoroughly cross examined things against trunk, one or two
of the comments I've made here may not actually be related to your branch at
all.

Cheers,
Peter
