Strange. I don't know such behaviour.
What Vaio you have, what BIOS etc..
What is your Bootmanager? Lilo?, Grub?, Grub2?
Do you have an installed Windows? Vista? Windows7?

I'm sorry, I think I cannot help you.
You seem to have problems with your BIOS but I can only guess
