No. Not necessary. That is only needed in very few environments, eg. if
you want to boot from fake-RAID 0 while Vista was already installed
before.

Of course!
That is the advantage of Grub2; it scans all available Operating-Systems
without need to interact or to edit the /boot/grub/menu.lst by hand

Don't be afraid!
You can always get any partition to boot (again), there are plenty of
tools:
You can fix the (windows) mbr with your (windows) installation disk or
you can use the super-grub cd to boot anything you can imagine..(use
google)..
But on this simple one disk installation, you can (should) simply use
grub in your mbr.
