Re: Major RAID speed improvement (for advanced Linux users)
Hi newgroup
I have a question about my fakeraid setup and how come it's not as fast as
it should be. I'm on a Z13 with 4 sdd's (each 64GB sized, totaling 256GB).
I ran hdparm -Tt on the dmraid and aswell as on the single drivers with the
following output:
[silverrocker@Freya ~]$ sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/mapper/isw_didhdcbhd_Volume0
/dev/mapper/isw_didhdcbhd_Volume0:
Timing cached reads: 10240 MB in 2.00 seconds = 5123.22 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 550 MB in 3.01 seconds = 183.00 MB/sec
[silverrocker@Freya ~]$ sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/mapper/isw_didhdcbhd_Volume0
/dev/mapper/isw_didhdcbhd_Volume0:
Timing cached reads: 9370 MB in 2.00 seconds = 4687.60 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 672 MB in 3.00 seconds = 223.99 MB/sec
[silverrocker@Freya ~]$ sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/sd
sda sdb sdc sdd
[silverrocker@Freya ~]$ sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/sda
/dev/sda:
Timing cached reads: 9960 MB in 2.00 seconds = 4982.34 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 436 MB in 3.01 seconds = 144.95 MB/sec
[silverrocker@Freya ~]$ sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/sdb
/dev/sdb:
Timing cached reads: 9562 MB in 2.00 seconds = 4783.64 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 438 MB in 3.00 seconds = 145.91 MB/sec
[silverrocker@Freya ~]$ sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/sdc
/dev/sdc:
Timing cached reads: 9992 MB in 2.00 seconds = 4998.56 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 434 MB in 3.01 seconds = 144.42 MB/sec
[silverrocker@Freya ~]$ sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/sdd
/dev/sdd:
Timing cached reads: 9822 MB in 2.00 seconds = 4913.14 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 436 MB in 3.01 seconds = 144.86 MB/sec
I'm running archlinux with the lts kernel (3.6.32)
greets
