Doubtful as 12.04 will stick with 3.0 kernel. You may have luck
with 12.19 which is shipping with a much newer kernel. Failing
that, you can install the newer kernel builds in Ubuntu. They have
downloads of upstream releases.

I know there was a talk about how the new kernel supported out
of the box the Media Station?? Is that new kernel is what’s
shipping with 12.04???

Booting from sd cards won't work. at least I couldn't make
that happen on my svz1311c.
Also, I believe I have read somewhere that booting from usb
will throttle the port down to usb2 speed (but I don't have a
source)

But why not just resize ur partitions and install both on the
raid 0 configured drives? Thats what i did. If u need more
space then just use a ext. drive.

I guess i could try it.. Then get like a usb3 to sata3
adapter, and buy an SSD that should be fast.. if not ummm
my next option would be one of those fast SD cards,

partition will stay in my z3 raid 0 partition, but i need
to run ubuntu on a external media and i need it to be fast...
If i grab one of those USB3.0 external drives and connect
it to my media dock.. I can boot to it at usb 3.0 speeds?
