Re: Debian ISO

Hi Israel,

A. I downloaded the newest Debian daily iso file. I updated/dist-upgraded to the current version 225.

I'm sorry, but there are problems in my Toshiba with the target drive connected via USB.

1. When I selected 'Partition drives and install alongside current OS' I get the following pop up window:

:( Use no extra paramters :(

and I am kicked back to the starter menu. This is a new error.

2. I restarted the OBI. When I selected Install (at the advanced level) I got the same symptom.

3. I restarted the OBI again. When I selected Install (at the basic level) I got the same symptom.

-o-

B. Then I rebooted and did not update/upgrade (I used the newest Debian daily iso file as it is). I am not affected by the 'Use no extra paramters' bug at the basic OBI level.

The installed system boots correctly :-)

4. But when I rebooted and selected 'Partition drives and install alongside current OS' I get the following pop up window:

:( Use no extra paramters :(

-o-

I looked for the string in the code, and found that you have replaced one [ ... ] (alias test) with [[ ... ]]

I don't understand how [[ ... ]] works, and maybe you made a mistake with it. Anyway, I changed it to the same as the other instance:

[ ... ], and the OBI-installer got past that obstacle.

5. I could not select swap partition. (The root partition was automatically selected.) I get an exclamation mark (a window without text), when I try to select it. And I am kicked back to the Confirm partition menu.

-o-

I will try with the bug-fix above and update/upgrade to version 225 ...

But no, I get the exclamation bug also in this case :-(

Does this version really work in your computer? Or only in VirtualBox or KVM?

-o-

We have two well working installed systems (as tarballs) now, Ubuntu Precise and Debian Jessie. One of them can be installed now (Ubuntu Precise) via two rather well debugged methods.

There are problems with the ToriOS live system and its OBI-installer. I am sure they will be solved sooner or later, but if we are in a hurry, we can 'release' the system, that I created last November. Today I installed and updated/dist-upgraded that system successfully (twice to get it up to date). It rebooted nicely and seems to work well. This system can be installed

- from a tarball with the original One Button Installer, v 3.2,

- from a compressed image file with mkusb.

See the following links

'ToriOS - ultra-light distro based on Ubuntu and the window manager JWM'

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2302798

'ToriOS gamma tarball'

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2172971&page=2&p=13385379#post13385379

This version of ToriOS is based on Ubuntu Precise. It comes with the kernel 3.2.0-92 and was upgraded today to kernel 3.2.0-101. If you don't want to release a system made last November, I can make a clean update/upgrade and make a new tarball dated 'April or May 2016'. It will be more convenient for the users, because they need not start with that update/upgrade operation.

Best regards
Nio

Ok,
I have built and tested a few times.
The latest obi in the repos works to position the overall OBI progress
window. The System name is preserved well except one hitch in
labelfix. This fix is in the next build.
The version to look for is 225

If Nio gets a chance to test soon, we can maybe release it once I
rebuild the ISO.

I changed things a bit to use the bash built in [[ ]] instead of the
program test (also known as [ )
This will speed things up and hopefully improve the user experience on
older computers. I will test things on an older computer soon to see
how well it does/doesn't work as far a speed goes.

Hi Again,

Yeah, sorry I forgot to mention the position of the 'progress' window
was not at the bottom but thought that may have been VB interfering again.

Cheers,

Hi again,
I noticed the window position bug is still there and a new minor issue
the OS name (though this is easily remedied)
I am uploading a new version of OBI, and will build it, so if you
don't mind checking again in about an hour things might work better.
I think I have a better method for getting the pid of the zenity
progress window

    Hi Isreal,

Much better with latest Debian zsync version...

VB Live session installed okay in VB.

    Looking good...

    Cheers,
    Jack

PS: I hope one day we'll find a solution for that Precise
network-manager problem; it's just irksome that it remains a
    mystery :)
