Re: Testing desktop-settings: RE: RE: Debian ISO
Hi israel,
Hhhmmm, I started to write the steps below but now find it is behaving okay and as expected. Magic happened. I can't reproduce it now as I did before as below...
1) Download (for example) wall.jpg.2) Right click on desktop and change default.jpg to wall.jpg; click OK and background changes to wall.jpg.3) Go to settings -> desktop-settings and there's a few seconds pause, background changes to default.jpg with no action from me...4) Close desktop-settings; now the background stays changed to default.jpg even though I did no action to change background other than 'look' at desktop-settings window.
I even checked again after reboot and not running jwm-settings-manager --debug and it appears to behave properly now.Bug fixed by magic.
Nice one,JackT.

Hi Jack,
I have tried this in my computer.
The only issue I noticed was in using jpeg file extention.
But I downloaded
http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/The_Sky_Is_The_Limit_by_Kaushik_Panchal-1600.jpeg
and moved it to sky.jpg and It worked fine
Then I logged out and back in and it was the same wallpaper.
Can you indicated the steps to reproduce it?
Also, run:
jwm-settings-manager --debug
Then choose the desktop settings, select the file and then send me
~/.jwm-settings-manager.log
Sorry I am not sure what is wrong here.

Hi Israel,
Updated to r258 on installed version; reloaded desktop;
logged out and back in again; rebooted; but problem still
exists...
settings -> desktop-settings loses any wallpaper chosen
and reverts it to the default.jpg.
Cheers,
JackT.

Hi Jack,
revision 258
This actually fixes the issue

Hi Israel,
Thanks for noticing the volume-indicator report.
Next bug I've noticed: when using 'settings ->
desktop settings' it drops the new wallpaper I
downloaded and reverts back to the default.jpg. Tried
it several times with same annoying result of
'desktop-settings' forgetting my new wallpaper.
Cheers,
Jack

Hi Jack,
I am actually working on that right now!
The OBI bug was more vital at the moment.
I am rebuilding:
revision 257
Update it and test it (you will probably have to log
out and back in to notice a change)

Hi Israel,
Used v225 of obi-installer and the
progress box seems to be positioned
reasonably low and out of the way of other
windows as the installer progresses.
On the installed system, I updated and
have one observation which continues to
occur, namely a problem with the
volume-indicator in the top panel.
It starts off set to 32%; left-click
does nothing; right-click gives a menu; if
I click on 'Mixer' nothing happens; if I
mess with alsamixer via a terminal/console
and go back to the volume-control I can
eventually get to a volume slider but
never before using alsamixer in a
terminal.
Cheers,
JackT.

Ok,
I have built and tested a few times.
The latest obi in the repos works to
position the overall OBI progress
window. The System name is preserved
well except one hitch in labelfix. This
fix is in the next build.
The version to look for is 225
If Nio gets a chance to test soon, we
can maybe release it once I rebuild the
ISO.
I changed things a bit to use the bash
built in [[ ]] instead of the program
test (also known as [ )
This will speed things up and hopefully
improve the user experience on older
computers. I will test things on an
older computer soon to see how well it
does/doesn't work as far a speed goes.

Hi Again,
Yeah, sorry I forgot to mention
the position of the 'progress'
window was not at the bottom but
thought that may have been VB
interfering again.

Hi
again,
I noticed the window position
bug is still there and a new
minor issue the OS name (though
this is easily remedied)
I am uploading a new version of
OBI, and will build it, so if
you don't mind checking again in
about an hour things might work
better.
I think I have a better method
for getting the pid of the
zenity progress window

Looking good...

PS: I hope one day we'll
find a solution for that
Precise network-manager
problem; it's just irksome
that it remains a mystery
:)
