Re: Alpha RC2

Hi Ali,

I agree that more memory is not better...
However... I am working with limited resources on building this OS. So
I am using as many pre-made tools as I can find, rather than reinventing
the wheel (unless I HAVE to in order to accomplish something specific).

If you (or anyone) knows of a better solution to allow the user to mount
a drive I would really like it.
I want it to be low memory very much so!! If you want to research udev
and upower, and udisks etc.. please do. If there is a better solution
for mounting drives I want it!! And once people have this ISO we can
see what works and what doesn't.

I think even a slightly heavy Alpha RC2 is better. There will be
fluctuation when we are building the OS. At one point the image went up
to 750+ MB for a while (10 or 15 builds) But once I got things situated
I was able to trim the size down. Right now everything works, and the
image is 680ish MB Those are two REALLY important things. We can test
things out, and see how it works. We can also test using PCManFM
instead of Rox/Udiskie or using Rox + some homebrew version. The main
thing we need is a working product. If it works, but is not optimized,
we can tweak it.
I am not worried so much about the current size/consumption. If it
works on our target machine 128MB RAM, then we are getting close to a
Beta. There will be no HUGE refactoring and rebuilding. It will now be
tweaking. So don't worry about it. I am just relieved we are getting
closer!! I have probably built ToriOS close to 100 times now :P

If you missed my previous e-mail, I may not be at the meeting in the
right time. I probably can't make it until 2200gmt or so... which is
too late for some people (I think... )
